Hui Pono Holoholona celebrated Thanksgiving by thanking the public for all of its help toward making the Big Island a better place to live as a dog or cat.
“We have much to be thankful for,” said Frannie Pueo, president of the all-volunteer nonprofit group. “With the community’s help this year, over 500 more dogs and cats in our community received spay/neuter services.
“Veterinarians are graciously offering their services to help relieve the animal overpopulation that plagues our island. Volunteers are offering their time and energy to help with the clinics and to care at TNRM-Trap Neuter Release & Manage Colonies.”
Pueo said the group is gearing up for the Christmas season and preparing for its annual participation in the Mauna Lani Festival of Charity Trees.
“We want to thank all the people who have donated to Hui Pono Holoholona. Large clean used T-shirts and towels are used at the spay/neuter clinics to hold each cat. Bags of cat food are used at the TNRM sites. All donations go to help the animals,” said Pueo. “Mahalo for your caring and assistance.”
The group’s final low-cost, cat spay/neuter clinic of the year will be on Saturday, Dec. 22. To schedule, please call or email. If you’d like to volunteer to assist at the clinics, please call. You can also contact Hui Pono Holoholona at P.O. Box 943, Mt. View HI 96771. For more information, call 968-8279 or email webmistress@hphhawaii.org. Visit www.hphhawaii.org.
For spaying/neutering dogs, the group uses area veterinarians.
“Please contact us for more information,” said Pueo. “We ask that you contribute what you can to the cost of spaying/neutering, if not now then at some time in the future. Please give so that donated funds can be stretched to cover as many dogs and cats as possible. Mahalo for your understanding.”
